Good afternoon,

Not actually G-listed, but can anyone recommend a simple USB scanner and
and printer for regular home use? It's for a relative and she asked me
to buy and set it up. I only have experience with the USB printer I've
got, a Lexmark Z53 I believe, and I don't have a scanner, and I haven't
followed the info about the latest and greatest printers and scanners so
have no insight at the moment.

Definitely stick with seperates. The all-in-ones are a pain in the a** when they break down.

I'd recommend the HP for both scanner and printer. They make great printers with good quality output. The HP 3820 printer is reasonably fast and should have some very nice output. Their scanners are simple enough to use. My Dad bought one just a month ago, his first (he's 60 and not technically minded) and he's had no problems figuring it out. Their 3570c scanner has good quality and a compact size. The two together should run about $230 (US) after a rebate on the scanner.

Personally, I would never recommend a sub $100 printer or scanner. They never really seem like a good deal after comparing features, and they just don't look sturdy enough to me.
