Hi folks...

I have a B&W G3/300 which I have upgraded with an early OWC G4/450 ZIF
running at stock speed (I can't seem to bump it at all...and frankly it may
be a bit flaky...but it could be something else) and its just not fast
enough and I have meager funds...so I am asking for advice on the least
expensive upgrade path.

Current specs:

Yosemite w/ G4/450
448MB of PC100 RAM
80GB HD
ATI Rage 128 in pci slot (for 2nd monitor)
Mac Radeon (32MB) in PCI Video slot using DVI connector to DVI LCD

This isn't really a gaming machine...mostly used for web production work and
daily use (broadband internet connection) so AGP isn't critical (and would
require another video card).

Can I get into the 800-1GHz range on a 100MB system bus? The highest G4
that can go on my yosemite appears to be a 550 and that really isn't enough
of a jump for the cost right now. a G4/800 upgrade (for most g4 systems)
run about 250-350 right now on OWC so that is one data point.

If that is my target range for cpu perf...how much of my current system can
I recycle? I am completely comfortable taking stuff apart but I am
unschooled in the arts of soldering and dremeling so major board or case
hacking is a little beyond me right now :)

So, I know I need a new logic board and CPU to start. Do I need to start
with a whole new (as bare as I can get it) system? Or can I get a new logic
board, cpu and possibly power supply and retrofit it into the B&W? Or will
that even save money?

Since the ram is all PC100...if I get a logic board with a 133 bus...won't I
need to buy all new memory? I have some 128MB PC133 sticks lying
around...and I even have a 256MB PC133 stick that I tried out in the B&W but
it would only read 128MB... could I use any of that with any of the other G4
logic boards?

Help me find my way (cheaply!) :)

Thanks in advance...
Caitlin
