>From what I've read, Digital8 uses the same tapes as old analog 8mm and Hi8
camcorders while the miniDV uses a different, smaller tape format.
Supposedly both formats have similar potential but Sony (who developed
digital8 and is the only vendor as far as I can tell) has chosen not to
pursue the high end of the consumer market with that format. MiniDV is more
compact and has more high end features available but some (not all) digital8
camcorders can play back and act as a video digitizer for older analog
tapes.

I'll probably be picking one up this week now that I know they work well
with a Mac!
