Yes you can add an extra internal hd. IDE or SCSI or both. Beware that if you want a SCSI drive, you'll probably also need the internal SCSI cable, most Beige G3s shipped without. Yes, a lot of those drives are dying these days, pull it and stick in whatever you like. I don't know anything about DVD drives, but some people are doing it. I have an LG CDRW in mine and it works like a charm. A lot of other brands and models will work, check out the drive compatibility base recommended in on of the other replies.
