Hi everyone,
I am really excited about this because I had so many people tell me
it could not be done. Even the ATI sitesaid you needed aa AGP Radeon
7000 for this to work but fortunately not. Here is what you do.
The Radeon 7000 PCI card does work but you need to be able to
run
at least 400 MHz. Also you need to be able to install Apple DVD player
2.7 and the patch. But to install 2.7, which will not install
automatically you need "TomeViewer", which can open the disc image and
allow you to install 2.7 manually. Then apply the patch. After that
clicking on the new patch icon opens the player and allows you to play
DVDs.
So, assuming you have a G3 or G4 running at 400 MHz or faster go
here,
<http://web.tiscali.it/no-redirect-tiscali/thinkdifferent/english/patchs/appledvdpatch27.html>
where you can download "TomeViewer", "Apple DVD Player 2.7 Patch", and
follow a link to "Apple DVD Player 2.7". After you have those three
applications open "TomeViewer" to open the "Apple DVD Player 2.7" and
expand the first three apps. into a separate folder and the rest into
"system extensions". After you have done that you should be able to
apply the patch. At that point I had two "Apple DVD Player 2.7" icons
but one ended in a K. That is the one you want to double click on to
open "Apple DVD Player 2.7". That's it!
You do not need a Rage 128 plus DVD module if you follow the
previous instructions nor do you need a DVD personality card. I used a
Rev. 1 Beige with a Rev. A ROM with no problems. I have one question
for anyone out there who may know.
A while back I asked if there were differences in Beige
Motherboards. Most of the replies said the differences rested in the
ROM not the mobo. So, why does the Rev. 1 mobo say "3D Rage II +
DVD", a Rev. 2 says "3D Rage Pro PCI", and a Rev. 3 says "Rage Pro
Turbo PCI" and how does that effect the abilities of each mobo?
TIA,
Anand
