Works fine on my 9600, too, which has a "Six Slot Edition" ZIF carrier, and a 333 MHz G3 (from a Beige G3 server) which is overclocked to 350 MHz. There are indeed a few artifacts which are not present on my Beige G3 server, which now sports a 533 MHz ZIF from OWC (no longer available). My guess is 300 MHz is necessary and sufficient. More is always better, of course. >> Also you need to be able to install Apple DVD player 2.7 and the patch ... >> Of course, because this is a software decoder-type player. However, Apple DVD Player 2.7 is sensitive to the video card, and it will not operate unless the card is one which it knows is capable of displaying the information stream that it decodes. >> ... I used a Rev. 1 Beige with a Rev. A ROM with no problems. >> True. My Beige G3 server was intentionally downgraded from Rev. 3C to Rev. 3A because: 1) other than the DVD-ROM-R-R/W drive on Bus 0 ID 0 which is a Pioneer DVR-105 (a so-called SuperDrive) and the CD-ROM-R-R/W drive on Bus 1 ID 0 which is a generic 52X24X52X drive, there are no EIDE devices on this machine, and 2) all hard drives are UW-SCSI, either 18.3 GB native UWs, or 60 GB UATA/100 drives which have been converted to UW-SCSI using an ACARD "bridge". >> I have one question for anyone out there who may know. A while back I asked if there were differences in Beige Motherboards. Most of the replies said the differences rested in the ROM not the mobo. So, why does the Rev. 1 mobo say "3D Rage II + DVD", a Rev. 2 says "3D Rage Pro PCI", and a Rev. 3 says "Rage Pro Turbo PCI" and how does that effect the abilities of each mobo? >> That is correct, the Rev. A ROM is intended for the Rev. 1 mobo, which has a 3D Rage II + DVD video chip; the Rev. B ROM is intended for the Rev. 2 mobo, which has a 3D Rage Pro PCI video chip and the Rev. C ROM is intended for the Rev. 3 mobo, which has a Rage Pro Turbo PCI video chip. Other than that, the Rev. B and C ROMs support Slave drives, while the Rev. A ROM doesn't, while the differences between the Rev. B and C ROMs are very small, and are primarily in support of the specific differences, if any, in the Rage Pro PCI and Rage Pro Turbo PCI video chips. The term "3D Rage II + DVD" is a misnomer as this video chip requires an external DVD decoder board, as do the others mentioned, in order to support DVDs. Since this DVD decoder board is "unobtanium", it is far cheaper to buy a Radeon 7000 and FLASH it from PC to Mac. Incidentally, Radeon 7000 PCIs are getting close to being "unobtanium".
