As has been stated .exe files are executable files, normally used for driver 
installation on a pc running Windows. Their scope is broader than that, however, and 
seem to be a favorite of Windows virus authors. They are probably nothing that you 
would be concerned with on your Mac.

ASF stands for "Advanced Systems Format". It's just a container for a/v files for 
Windows Media Player. .WMV and .WMA files are compressed using the Windows Media 
codec. Wimp 7 (or whatever the last version is for Mac will probably open them). Other 
compressed files, and these can be anything such as Quicktime, DivX, etc., will end in 
a .ASF extension. You will have to have the specific codec, or application containing 
it installed to run it.
