(This is a cross list post because it is an important OS X 10.2 issue)

Thanks to Phillip for the detailed email but after several days of research, I found that I don't have to replace my flyback transformer ($85 for the part). While this can look like a CRT/hardware failure, it is a software issue after all, and one easily fixed.

My problem seems quiet common elsewhere within other MUGs. If the firmware updater has not been run when you install 10.2.6, the internal monitor acts up. Attached monitors aren't affected. IT should be done before installing Jaguar 10.2.6 however, it can be done after the pastel-pink ghosts, midnight-blue black goblins , hula-wiggle, acid-trip starts on one's monitor. I hope knowing this before hand will save other's heart aches and heart attacks.(note: some sources said 10.2 and others 10.2.6. My issue occurred after going up to 10.2.6)

The firmware update for the "slot loading" iMac and instructions are available at: <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75130>

Seems most G3s and all G4s require a firmware update before updating to 10.2.6. I was so fixated on my G3MT I was remiss in not re-looking things when I got an iMac.

I don't know if it is just coincidence but upon restart after installing the 9.2.2 update to the classic side of my G3 400 IMac, my screen went pink with ghost blue shadows. The colors vary with each start up and the defect shows up in OS X...
