I saw lots of suggestions for DVD burners instead. Looks like Andy just
wants a CD burner.

Yes, most any IDE (ATAPI) CD burner will work in the Mac as David B
suggested, but not with iTunes/Disk Burner as Andy requested.

Yes, take a peek at xlr8yourmac.com. I bought a TDK Velodyne 4800B (48X,
released in the later part of last year) and it's very nice but no
version of Disk Burner recognize it. There may be a way to hack it but
I've never tried under OS 9 --- I use OS X now and downloaded a hacked
file for it.

In casual observation it appears than many of the Lite On drives usually
have that rare combination of compatibility with Disk Burner (again,
confirm this first), performance and cheapness. They are widely sold and
often discounted and sometimes re-branded as Cendyne or other.

For example the next time you see a sale at Office Max/Depot for a cheap
Cendyne look on the box. If you see "LTR..." it's a Lite On, however the
very same model by Cendyne could say something else in the small print
and therefore be made by someone else.
