Regarding Global village it was said:
Did you install the incessant and proprietary Global Village software
 > package? You need it. If you don't install their software package
 > your modem will not work. That's one reason they are now out of business.
Then there was a reply:
They don't sell modems? but I clicked your link and clicked on products and I
see three types of modems and NOTHING else: Teleport, Cable and USB.

Actually you don't need their software for their external modems--but it helps. I still use GlobalFax because nothing comes close to it. The company went out of business when Apple started including built-in modems. They sold their name but not their "business" on the theory that the old GV would support the old products. (like yeah). You can get a GV-named modem, but not their good software.
Every modem came with the very nice software. Then you could upgrade--but they are out of business now so you can't.
As for the scripts---Just use the old command sets--you don't need the scripts.
I would suspect that any rights on the software have been abandoned, for the simple reason that they did not sell their software rights and they have pretty much abandoned support. (There is an old legal doctrine that says you can't sell the good stuff out of a corporation (like misc property and licenses) and keep the bad stuff in it (like debt and support obligations). Nevertheless, people attempt to do it all the time. It seems to me that a corollary principle would be that if you abandon your obligations, you abandon your claims. (I've always wanted to start an abandonware company and test my theory.)
Anyway, there are a bunch of people out there that have global village software so that we can use Global Fax, but I have a bunch of the modems running around here, and they don't all have the software, or need it.
