Um, yeah. Until they invent a wireless CDROM, you'd proly want to keep that ribbon cable, uh, attached TO the CDROM. Sorry, but I'm a jerk.


Also, with the extra HD the whole system seemed slow.

If the drive's driver is corrupt somewhat that can cause things such as slow booting of the system, the desktop can be slow to display as the computer tries to see the drive before loading the Finder fully, etc. If you have a disk utility such as Disk first Aid run that on it. If you have something stronger such as Disk Warrior try that. If nothing else works back up everything and re-initialize it and see if that helps.


If the drive is the only item on the bus it should be fine and not interfere with anything, as long as it's in good health... The same jumper setting (Master or Single) is used for both iMac and the beige, so that part should be OK.
