Hi List
I am about to purchase an iBook with pretty low specs. What is upgradeable?
Can I up the hard drive and do I need a specific iBook hard drive and whats
the max?
No. You need a 2.5" ATA laptop drive; any current one should do, so long as it's 9mm or shorter. (I think)
It has 32mb on board memory. Am I right in thinking you can put a 512Mb chip
it in as it only has one ram expansion slot. Would this make it 544Mb or do
you have to remove the 32mb?
The 32 mb on board is non-removable. Adding a 512Meg SODimm will boost it to 544 MB. Buy your memory from someplace that says it will work in an iBook. (I buy mine from Data Memory Systems <http://www.datamem.com>, but I don't know their overseas sales policies)
What type of ram can I use. Can I use my beige g3 tower memory in it?
Not at all. It's a completely different style of Dimm.
Is it possible to put an internal cdrw or cdr in it and if so what type?
Not sure about that, I'd check places like MCE, who specialize in Powerbook upgrades. You may be stuck with a USB cdrw.
