Well, I'd say it's a bit closer to the the power supply, not so much
near the corner where the PCI slots are.

Towards the back of the motherboard are three connectors bunched up
right close to each other: the on-board SCSI and then the two IDE
connectors.

Good luck! I seemed to hit many brick walls with my beige; often it
didn't seem to "follow the rules" of other, older Macs as far as
troubleshooting goes. Perseverance, and trying again another day helps
too.
