I do own two Macs, but neither is capable of what I need them to do.
Namely, I want to do analog video capture (& sound) from VHS tapes, and burn them to VideoCD's, or possibly DVD's sometime in the future, when drive and blank media prices join the real world...
What I'd like to know is: What Mac should I buy to do this kind of video capture/production? It needs to be as inexpensive as possible, yet make discs that are the same quality as the tapes they came from (no or very few dropped frames, no problem playing the discs in a set-top DVD player or a PC or Mac's DVD player, Menus would be nice).
This is what I currently have:
a PM 7300/200 w/ 288 MB RAM, fairly stock. Running 9.1 and OS X 10.1.5 comfortably. a IIfx w/ maxed RAM and a 250 MB hard drive.
I have looked at the following as possibilities:
a desktop or minitower Beige G3 w/ the A/V Personality card, possibly w/ a processor upgrade, depending on what the one I get has in it.
a Blue & White G3, but it has no capture options from Apple other than DV via FireWire. PCI cards are WAY too expensive for me, as the vast majority seem to be professional solutions that cost as much or more than a new G5...
or, a 8500/8600/9500/9600, w/ a G3/G4 processor upgrade, & a optical drive replacement.
Which would be the best, but also the cheapest, option? Is there any other possibilities that I have missed, or is any of my info wrong?
Thanks for any and all suggestions!
