Does it bounce up and down endlessly? Get a SPOD? Or just pop up and quit immediately?

Is there anything in the crash logs? (~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter)

Try the usual litany of suspects: (Prefs, Permissions, File corruption, System Corruption)

Try renaming /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist.old and see if it runs. It will ask you to set up your accounts again. If that works, well, tolls the old prefs file, it's corrupted.

(if it doesn't run, it isn't the prefs file and you can rename it back, rather than redoing all your pers and account info again.)

Run disk utility and 'Repair Prefs'

Boot from the Jag CD and run Disk Repair.

Re-apply the 10.2.6 combo updater, as Mail has been updated a few times.

If all that doesn't work, the problem exists elsewhere in OSX, and if all of the above does'nt fix it, it's archive'n'reinstall time.
