Hey all,

I installed Jaguar on a Firewire HD today in order to be able to have a system and appz to complete some tasks at work. Unfortunately, the lab where I am working is still stuck in OS 9.

Anyway, after running SW Update to 10.2.6, the system hangs during the "directory services" and "application services" boot up processes... No success resulted from verifying the permissions or fixing the drive from the install CD. The FW Drive is readable when booting from the other Jaguar installation on the internal HD...

Does anyone have any suggestions before I wipe this clean and start from scratch?

Does this system boot on *any* Mac or does it hand after the upgrade to 10.2.6? If the latter, try applying the 10.2.6 cumulative upgrade.

If the former, get it to boot up on the system it'll boot opn and go into Applications/Utilities and run Directory Access. You can likely turn just about everything off in the services page...this can cause hangs with systems like this.

(actually you can turn *everything* in that first page off, you just won't be able to have the Mac automatically find resources on the network using those various protocols.)

I'll bet the failure of the directory services stuff is killing something in the applications services stuff.
