The problem with giving and getting advice on these printers these days, is that you want a printer to last more than a year, and yet the inkjet models change a lot every year.
My Lexmark Z53 is OK but the Ink costs a fortune!!!!!!!! $60/pair of cartridges--and they are not big. It is totally useless because of that--but if there is a clog, the jet is in the cartridge.
I got an refurb epson 880/888 and I was so happy because I could get a dozen cartridges for $60 at Ink4Art---but you better use the printer and don't let the cartridges ever go dry ever ever ever. The 888 was the last printer made without a chip in the cartridge (I believe).
I think the epson c82 will give better performance, and has better ink, with individual cartridges that is cheaper because the cartridges are larger, but they went and downsized the carriage--they stuck little tabs in the paper path so you could no longer put a 9*12 envelope in the printer--even though the carriage would clearly have taken it if they hadn't done so. The C82 ink is really waterproof.
I hesitate to recommend any inkjet to anyone. Who know what will be the lifespan and ink cost of this years' models?
