Thanks much John. I tried turning the output from the computer way down and
the speakers way up to max, but the distortion was still there, so it's
probably not clipping. Next, as you suggest, I'll try another set of
computer speakers, and then hooking up to a stereo's speakers and see what
happens. I've got the adapter from 1/8 stereo to RCA stereo.
