Last week I set up a G3 desktop for my son. I installed OS X and and OS 9 on it. In order to cut down on how much he could screw up, I activated multiple users on OS 9 and added an Admin and a user account. After switching these around a bit, I found I had inadvertently deleted the Owner account. Multiple Users control panel told me to open File Sharing control panel to set it up. However, when I open FS CP, it tells me that the Users & Groups data file can't be used and that I should remove it from the prefs folder and reboot.
I have done that multiple times to no avail. Any suggestions, aside from re-installing OS 9, to fix this problem?
Boot with exts off. Trash ALL the appletalk related networking prefs, including Users & Groups Data File and AppleShare Prep. I'd trash the multiple user prefs too. Reboot. Turn on AppleTalk and set things back up...
