Disk drives of the early beige G-3 era do not read all modern disks. Neither does my 333 Lombard. I can burn some brands of disks and they will work on some things here and maybe other things there--but not all things. The problem is that the old burners were made for blanks that are no longer obtainable. Furthermore, there is no way to figure out what disks are sold under what brand name.

If you want to read a freaky site on the topic check out : http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=33. My tentative idea is that you want some TaiyoYuden disks, which are sold--among other names--as fujifilm 40 disks. These are rated at 48x but most people suggest burning them at 40. Of course you then need a 40x CD burner. You might as well buy a LiteOn for not much.
