> I want to transfer files from my Main G4 over to the G3 Mac. > At both boxes, in Network ,Apple Talk is turned ON > At both boxes File Sharing is set to FTP
You don't need the FTP turned on. All that does is allow the possibility of accessing your computer via FTP, it has no affect on AT. > The problem is that at each of the macs, opening up the bootup > drives, clicking on Networks and then on Servers, only the mac I am > using is listed. ?? So far as I can tell, that's normal. I'm not entirely sure what the root level networks is for, perhaps local Windows servers show up there. > I assume this is telling me that I do NOT have an Apple Talk network > connection between the two Macs? So long as AT is turned on with both systems, and you are using X on both you should be fine. I've seen occasional problems connecting between 9 and X using AT. > When I go to Finder -GO -Connect to Server , it asks for an IP > address only. No indication of any panel that says Apple Talk. When you do this, click the down arrow next to the popup menu (the window will expand and a listing of local computers will show up); you may have to let it sit for a while. The "Connect to Server" dialog can take a while to locate all servers. So long as you know the IP address you should also be able to use that.
