Assuming OS 9, I imagine that an installation done on a G4 would not work since the system enablers are all wrong for a beige machine. However, there is a function in the OS 9 installer that you can install a "Universal" system that might work. Similar for OS X. It tends to be picky about moving the OS from one machine to another. For 10.2 this could be solved by doing an "archive and install" and "preserve user and network settings" in the Options of in installer.

Very interesting. Has anyone else transferred a prebuilt disk to a beige G3 and it worked? This would be the solution to a big limitation. Just build the disk on a G4 in a firewire box and move it to the beige.

Hi guys, this is my first message, I am from Brazil.

A few days ago I installed my imac DV 20GB HD on my beige G3 for backup purposes. And it worked! Well, the surprise is cause it has booted on OSX installed on a 16GB partition. So the 8GB limits is for installation only. I didn't know that.
