I did something similar to this. When OS X Beta was released I couldn't get it to install on my upgraded Beige G3 (450 ZIF overclocked to 501) internal drive so I installed it to an external SCSI drive (2 gig) and then took that drive and installed it as an internal SCSI in the Beige. That was one of the great things about the Beige: both IDE and SCSI internal buses on the mobo. At one point I had 4 rather small hard drives just kind of crammed into it: one on the floor (original 4 gig IDE drive), two SCSI drives (both 2 gig) in the extra two bays on the right front of the machine, and a free floating IDE (20 gig) drive just kinda laying on top of the RAM and stuff. They all worked but I had to get a Rev B ROM chip before I could add the IDE drive. Also had all the PCI slots filled (ixTV tuner, Apple DOS, ATI video), ethernet port (cable modem), both serial ports (printers), external SCSI (CD-R drive) and a couple of extra ADB devices (FM radio, drawing tablet), as well as two monitors (19 inch and 21 inch). That was a great, stable, but very hot machine, although the heat never caused any problems. John

Very interesting. Has anyone else transferred a prebuilt disk to a beige G3 and it worked? This would be the solution to a big limitation. Just build the disk on a G4 in a firewire box and move it to the beige.

Agree, this is interesting. Odd that no one has attempted that before. Hope to hear from others who try it.
Kudos to Marcelo.

Hi guys, this is my first message, I am from Brazil.

A few days ago I installed my imac DV 20GB HD on my beige G3 for backup purposes. And it worked! Well, the surprise is cause it has booted on OSX installed on a 16GB partition. So the 8GB limits is for installation only. I didn't know that.
