PC100. PC133 should work, but sometimes Macs are finicky about RAM. Buy from a reputable dealer who'll let you return/exchange it if it doesn't work. >How much can I put in it? There are two slots, each can take up to 512MB, so 1GB total. >Would I have to remove the 128Mb in there? Not unless you want more than 640MB. >Is there any fixed motherboard memory? No. >I have an iMac G3 400 with 10Gb hard drive. > >I need some more hard drive space, not right now but I will need to soon. Yes. >Whats the maximum hard drive size I can put in? I believe the firmware will only recognize the first 137GB, so not much point in getting a drive bigger than that. :) >If I put a large drive in it without any partitions do I need to do anything >special with OS X? No. I believe the goofy OS X boot partition limitation only applies to the the beige G3s and tray-loading iMacs. >Not wanting to rip my iMac apart, can I get an external USB or Firewire hard >drive? Yes. >Are external drives very fast and reliable? FireWire is fairly fast. USB, on the G3 iMacs, isn't. >Do they just show up on the desktop as a second hard drive - pretty much like >the mini flash drives do? Yes. You may need some third-party formatting s/w for a FireWire drive if you use OS 9. Dunno about OS X. >PS the bonus of saving everything to an external drive is if OS goes down or >heaven forbid, my iMac dies then everything is saved externally. I like that >idea alot, plus it portable I could just take my external drive to work and >plug it in a different mac. Yes. On the other hand, an external drive is more likely to get dropped, stolen, etc. It's a bit of a trade-off. Also, there's an iMac list that might be better suited for iMac questions. -Jeff [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- "You can't brew a premium lager with a kool-aid mentality." --Harold Green in _The_Red_Green_Show_ -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
