Some say the October update is old, but until I reinstalled it after I flashed a card, I got that it is a 64MB in the ASP. Before that, it was saying that it was a 32MB like the one I pulled out......
I FLASHed a 32 MB and a 64 MB with 208, and ASP read each with their correct values.
The "raw" board and LSIs of all these cards ... PC or Mac; 32 MB or 64 MB; VGA only, or DVI only, or VGA, DVI and S-Video ... are the same.
The only difference is the connectors and some passive components which
are "stuffed" or not stuffed, depending upon the external interfaces t be
supported, and, of course, the amount of DDR RAM.
And, the firmware can't tell anything about the external world except, of
course, whether a monitor is installed, or not.
I used to think so too, BUT if you need me to send the pdf clip I took of the before I reinstalled the ATI software and the after, (with the SAME video card) I have them right here on my desktop. I always heard that the October Update was older than the Jag ATI software, but I tried it anyway and it works GREAT with Quake III Arena now......
BTW, it showed as 64MB in 9.1 on another machine, but when I pulled it and put it in this 9600/G4/800 and Jag, it came up as 32MB....
