Lee,
The easiest way to deal with camera media, (compact flash, smart media, etc.)
is to get a USB media reader and then take the media from the camera and stick
it into the reader, which then acts as a "small external drive",  the pictures
can then be opened with Quicktime, or Photoshop or Graphic Converter, etc.
This way is much faster and easier to use and doesn't use up camera battery.
Others may be able to give more precise directions.  I never did install the
camera software. Good Luck
