I have an unfortunately petty amount of money to spend on computers. My first Mac11si was bought new in 1991. It served me well. Couple of years ago, or more, I bought a refurb 7300/200 and that was great. It too served me very well and this year, I donated it to a very impoverished family of 8.
At that time I bought a used beige G-3, upgraded it a bit with a firewire/usb card, 120 gig Maxtor drive, cd-r/rw, and maxed out memory. It too.............
Through this list, I found dealmac, and sort of read it daily. Few weeks ago it mentioned a G-4 zif for $89.00. I called Daystar at that time but was not able to buy it then. After a new cycle on my credit card, I called Them back and ordered the G-4 zif.
It very promptly arrived couple of days ago, thanks to Gary Daiey of Daystar. Today a friend installed it, and the computer is singing to me. I love it.
The friend who installed it was going home to order one for himself, he was that impressed! He is far more computer literate than I and is very instrumental to helping many OMUG (Oceanside Mac Users Group) yet he did not know of this reasonable upgrade.
So now thanks to the friendly advice and suggestions I have gotten on this list, and I did send a contribution to Dan Knight, I am set for quite a while. I still have 2 open slots, so not sure what will benefit me most.
I am one happy camper, my system reads, G-4 366, 768 ram, 120g HD, thank you all.
