Specs: B&W G3 400 | 1GB | 40GB | 9.2.2 | 10.2.6 I bought a CDRW/DVD combo from Lite On, the Lite On COMBO 48161H (48x24x48x16). I was going to replace the CD-ROM from an eMac for this model.
I tested this combo in my B&W G3. Symptoms: booting from original CDs: OK, booting from my own burned utilities CDs, nogo. Also booting with a burned CD in the tray, freeze. Finally I got it to boot after a CUDA reset and PRAM zap of all sort of CDs. I succesfully burned a rewritable with Toast 5.2.1. In the meantime I had tried to boot from it while connected to my PCI ATA controller, a Sonnet ATA 133 RAID card (set to master, no RAID setup, no HDs connected to it). Allthough I have seen messages that it worked for others with non-RAID cards I myself couldn't boot from it, CDRW wasn't even 'seen' in ASP, the ATA card off course was, how's this possible?? Also tried hacking the Lite On authoring support file for OS 9, but guess I'm doing something wrong even when following the instructions for AccellerateYourMac. There should be a working support file for 10.2.6 at that site, but it doesn't work either, checking with HexEdit and there is no mention of that drive at all in the file. I'll mail Mike Breeden about this. But can anyone help with the OS 9 support file? According to the AccellerateYourMac database this string should be added: COMBO LTC-48161H Thanks, Marc BTW the combo drive is working fine in the eMac with Toast. But getting to the guts of the eMac is not for the faint of heart.... * * -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
