You can use it check drive compatibility and get hints and tips. I used it to as reference to replace my DVD-RAM drive with a Toshiba Combo drive.

I am going to be getting a (slightly) used G4 Sawtooth or better soon. I really would like to put in a DVD recording drive in it, but I'm a bit inexperienced with DVD recorders especially, and with Macs in particular.
I know that Apple has their SuperDrive, which is really just a Pioneer DVR-103/104/105, depending on the Mac's model and when it was made. However, these drives are still quite expensive (the ones I have managed to find for sale), with used drives often costing more than new ones.
My questions are:
Can ANY Pioneer DVR-103/104/105/106 drive work in a PowerMac G4 as a SuperDrive, recognised by ASP, iTunes, Disc Burner, and Toast?
Which format is MOST compatible, especially with somewhat finicky DVD readers (PC drives and set-tops)? DVD-R/-RW, or +R/+RW?
I would prefer to have a drive that writes -R/-RW & +R/+RW, as well as CD-R/-RW, and tend to do it well. I also require the drive to be bootable on a Mac, as I would probably rip out the existing drive in favour of the DVD writer. Which drives tend to be best for this application, are not picky about the media they are fed, and are useable with the standard Mac software apps above?
Thanks,
Glenn
