Salutations list members,

I asked this question yesterday but got no input, so I'll ask again.

I have a G3/400 B/W that came with a 9GB Wide Ultra2 SCSI HD installed.
I added a 40GB Ultra ATA HD and a 6GB Ultra ATA HD.

The 9GB SCSI HD has MacOS 9.2.1 installed and has my internet browners,
Norton Utilities v.6, Disk Warrior v.4 and serves as a scratch disk for
PhotoShop and temporary storage for pictures, doc's and music files.

The 40GB ATA HD is partitioned and has MasOS X installed on one and
Virtual PC on the other. The 6GB ATA HD has MacOS 9.2.2 installed and is
my main work HD.

Several weeks ago I started having problems with the 9GB SCSI HD. The HD
would sometimes not appear on my desktop at start up and other times it
would mount on start up. When it was mounted, I would restart with the
Norton Utilities CD, run Disk Doctor or restart with the Disk Warrior CD
and run Disk Warrior. Neither could repair the HD. I have forgotten what
the error messages were, but I think something was wrong with the "boot
volumes".

Today I ran Drive Setup on the HD and reformatted the disk. I restarted
with the Power Macintosh G3 Restore Software CD. When I tried to install
the software, the installer would start and then freeze my Mac. I
couldnot force quit, I had to force a restart. The same happened when I
tried to copy a system folder from the CD to the HD.

I hope I have provided enough information for someone to understand my
problem and offer suggestions. Is my HD dying or already dead?

If the latter is true and the HD is in fact dead, any suggestions on a replacement (9-18GB) disk for a Wide Ultra 2 SCSI card.

Again, thanks for any input.

au revoir,
James
