I tried moving the FW card to the middle slot as suggested but didn't help.
Then I manually turned off most of the extensions (in extensions mgr after
removing the card), replaced the card and the computer started up ok. I
played around w/ adding more extensions last night and eventually discovered
that if I used my original extension set but w/ "FW Enabler" (an OS 9.2
extension) turned off, the computer starts and runs ok with the FW card in.
However, although I have the "iPod FW Enabler" extension on, iTunes won't
recognize the iPod as it's supposed to do to transfer music files. So this
is where I am, card in but still no-go.
I think the FW card SHOULD be able to be in place w/ "FW Enabler"
extension on. I'll probably try turning it back on and turning "iPod FW
Enabler" extension off to see what happens- maybe those 2 are conflicting.
I'm also thinking maybe I need to dl the OS 9.2.2 updater, (I have the
URL). I have OS 9.2.1 and was told this would work w/ older type iPod I
have, but the box says X or 9.2.2 required. If that doesn't work, probably
will get another FW card (probably a USB/FW combo to free a PCI slot for an
ATA controller card)- the FW card I have is a SIIG brand w/ 3 external and
1 internal port. I only pd $14.50 incl shipping for it (eBay). Any other
ideas? Thanks again for your ideas on this interesting though frustrating
situation.
