Sometimes cheap is good, but sometimes cheap is just cheap. There are a variety of printers out there that sell for under $100. With some of them, the replacement ink cartridges cost more than the printer.
Check in whatever local computer stores are in your area. Most have a "marked down bin" for items that were returned (for whatever reason). You can often times find a better printer at a reduced price that way.
Everyone's printing needs are different. You might read through some of the printer reviews in MacWorld, MacAddict or MacFormat.
