This is a common issue.  The power button is not the easiest thing to reinstall after 
taking the outer shell of the case off, and most non-profesional techs don't get it 
right the first few times.  Even experienced tech's miss it sometimes.  It would be 
covered under Applecare, but you would have to remove the CDRW you installed.  That is 
not considerd a CIP (Customer Installable Part) and Apple would, most likely, deduce 
from that addition that the person that installed the CDRW was the person who failed 
to replace the Power Actuation button correctly.

Put the original drive back in and  keep your mouth shut and you will be covered by 
Applecare.
