Hey all -

Well, an interesting issue this evening - turned on my beige G3, and
wandered away. My flatmate told me that it made a loud bang, and then
reset itself. It got as far as the Disk First Aid verification screen,
and then stayed there (as I had been in another part of the house, i
hadn't clicked 'done' yet.) There was a fairly strong burning smell
coming from the computer, so i yoinked the plug and opened up the
computer. I checked for anything obviously burned out on the logic
board, but nothing was obvious, except a faint smell from the power
supply. Thinking this would be the problem, I opened it up and looked
for anything burned out - once again, nothing, but there was a faint
burnt smell coming from one of the transformers. Seeing as logic was
declining to be interviewed, I very tentatively put everything back
together, and now I've had the computer running normally for about an
hour.

Any Ideas?

The only thing I've noticed differently is that the processor is running
at 31C when it normally runs between 21 and 27C. However, this may be
owing to me possibly putting the power supply back together incorrectly
- should the fan be sucking air in to the supply or out of it? And if I
want to put a fan on top of the processor, does it need to blow air onto
the heatsink or suck it away?

Cheers,
Evan.
