>What's the deal on Beige G3's not reading 256k ram? I had a >couple of PC133 sticks in a PC and they read 256 according to XP Pro, and >the Beige G3/266 only sees them as 128's.
If the stick is made from eight super high density chips, and not sixteen (or eight) high density chips, then the Beige's DRAM controller will see these as only one-half of their true capacity. For high or lower density sticks, the Beige will read these correctly whether the sticks contain eight or sixteen chips. For super high density sticks, the Beige will read eight chip, 256 MB sticks as 128 MB. It is a hardware limitation from back when the largest one-sided SDRAM stick was 64 MB and the largest double-sided SDRAM stick was 128 MB. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
