Many people who have been using Gimp Print to print to unsupported printers in OS X will find that their printers will not be usable, because 'no drivers are found', and you can't even select them in the Printer Utility.

I know this happens with an archive and re-install because I've had to deal with this three times so far.

I don't know about Upgrade installs.

Three things have to be done: (all need to be done in terminal by an admin user, using sudo <command>, since these files are owned by root.)

1) move the appropriate PPD file, from "/Previous System/Previous System 1/private/etc/cups/ppd" to /private/etc/cups/ppd

Command: (all on one line)

sudo cp "/Previous System/Previous System 1/private/etc/cups/ppd/MyPrinter.ppd" /private/etc/cups/ppd

2)copy the configuration section (between <printer> and </printer>) from the file "/Previous System/Previous System 1/private/etc/cups/printers.conf" to /private/etc/cups/printers.conf

sudo more "/Previous System/Previous System 1/private/etc/cups/printers.conf"

(Copy the appropriate section)

sudo pico-w /private/etc/cups/printers.conf

and paste in the section you copied above in the file. so long as the part you're pasting isn't between another <printer> </printer> set, you're fine.

I haven't tested this, but you could *probably* just copy the old printers.conf file to /private/etc/cups If you try this, rename the existing one printers.conf.saved or something so you can get back if needed.

3) Fire up Activity monitor and find the 'cupsd' process, there is a process number associated with it. IN this example I'll say it's 280.

Command: sudo kill -HUP 280

Now if you fire up Printer Utility, your old printer is there and set up!
