Hi Gareth. It means that it won't support disk burning in the Finder (Disk Burner) or in iTunes, although it will probably work fine with third party burning apps, such as Toast. There may be a hack for getting it to work as a "supported drive" available at:

I've got a similar situation. I was a bit surprised to find that Disk Burner wasn't installed on a G3 DT, I thought I'd seen it (it is in the OS 9 System). I tried adding it but OS X doesn't do that. I have installed Toast 5.0.2 (into OS 9) and then the 5.2.1 update (an OS X app) and just (as I've been writing this) did a test burn to a CDRW. It seems to have worked, there is this CD on the desktop with the stuff I burned. Next I have to try a CD-R but first I've got to pick up my kids.
