I've decided that rather than continuing to upgrade (hot rod) my "FrankenMac" beige G3 MT, I'm going to upgrade to a G4 CPU, instead. I figure I should be able to afford a 500MHz Sawtooth model, or quite possibly a Quicksilver (if I get lucky enough on pricing). Yes, I know there are a few versions in between, and yes I'll be on the look out for them.
My real question, here, is...I won't need to partition, to install OS X (specifically 10.2.8), like with the PCI Power Macs, right? What size IDE drive is the biggest that I can use, in the Sawtooth - Quicksilver G4? Since I still have some applications that are Classic only (at least I haven't yet managed to upgrade to OS X versions), I'll likely install OS 9.2.2 on the slave HDD (the same as with my current G3), for being dual bootable, although Photoshop 5.5 does surprisingly well, under Classic emulation. The only "burp" I'm noticing, with my current setup is, a noticeable pause (that's not there, when booted directly to OS 9) when opening files and creating new files. More than likely, I'll leave the Sonnet Tango USB 2.0/FireWire and ATI Radeon 7000ME cards inside the beige box, since I'll be looking for the best video card I can get, for the G4. I'll move my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card to the G4, which will open up a PCI slot in the G3, so...anyone have any suggestions, on what to fill the soon to be open PCI slot with?
