Some RevC's not all, which is why it's driving Sonnet crazy. > I'm OK with the whole 'buyer beware' concept, but I would have thought that > if they were going to post information on their website warning people about > a hardware incompatibility within a subset of a group of computers that they > claim the card works in, they would not place it at the bottom of a long > list of driver/firmware upgrades for many other cards in addition to the one > that the problem exists. Am I being silly to think they would chose to be > more up front on this issue? No you're not being entirely silly on this. But they *are* being up front about this: the caution about the RevC G3's is on the main product page. <http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_trio.html> Granted you have to read the footnotes, but it's there, not buried deep in the drivers page. The problem arises that they can't say, blanket-fashion, it doesn't work on RevC G3's, because it does work on SOME of them. There's a distinct subset of RevC G3's that they don't work on, which is one reason they're having problems. Another is that it doesn't seem to be the same problem on all of them. I've gotten two fixes from them that, while they didn't fix the problem on MY G3, did fix the problem on the RevC G3 *they* had that displayed the problem. (and the problem in my case wasn't that it wasn't recognized, it was that the system would not boot at all with the card in the slot.) The Trio is a good card, though if you don't have one of the problem machines. -- Bruce Johnson Thanks Bruce for your clear headed reasoning. I am feeling very conflicted about not being able to use this card in my G3 Beige MT. Call it a bad case of 'problem solving by throwing $$$ @ it" ; - ) I must be honest, this is really the responsibility of no one else other than myself. In addition, I want to go on record and report what fine service I have received from "Small Dog Electronics". I had purchased the card from them 11/20/03. They have a 15 day return policy for a full refund. I was past that date by some 3 days. Their policy states that after the 15 days, there is a 15% return fee, and you receive a store credit. HOWEVER, I spoke with a kind young man there name of Ed. He waived the 15% penalty fee, help me locate the Sonnet ATA card which would work with my G3 (A 133), and refunded the difference to my credit card. This is approximately $70 (US)!!! In addition, he shipped the card to me by 3 day mail without my returning the Trio first, at no additional cost. This may seem trivial to some, but making things easier for a "clumsy consumer" is a very beneficial practice, in my mind at least. As a final note, much thanks to Bruce Johnson, and Bob Towsley ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) for assisting me. This list (as well as all of the LEM/Macintoshguy Lists) are an unfathomable resource to the Mac community at large. Not only is there friendly advice/assistance, but often lively debate on topics of considerable importance. Well, some importance anyway... ; - p Now, if I can only figure out how to reply to this thing.....(attempt #4!!) Jim R -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
