This doesn't help your situation too much since you are running it on an older Mac, however, folks who recently purchased a new Mac may be eligible for the "Mac OS Up to Date" program. You can find out if you are eligible here:

It's $20 for the 10.3 upgrade disks (must have 10.2.x first).
