I don't know what the problem is but there are apparently different flavors of
jpegs and some programs won't load certain ones.  Even Photoshop sometimes
chokes on some jpegs.

What I do is run them through "Convert More" in Graphics Converter with the
conversion set to jpg/jfif.  You can run a whole batch of images automatically.  
So they all come out in the same flavor of jpeg and it seems compatible with
everything.  This almost always works.

Graphics Converter is an amazing shareware program that will convert almost
anything to anything else, including some animations and text formats.  The demo
version is not limited in any way, (at least in the older versions) but it is
worth paying for since it is so good and he keeps making it better.
