Tina, This just happened to me. ATA CD_ROM drive suddenly disappeared. Zapped "PRAM" and all was fine.
I took the whole damned thing apart, pressed the cuda and reset the logic board. Just right this minute finally got the whole "spaghetti" connected, and I'm up running again.
Sometimes I do miss the good old days ;-)
Geez yeah, this was my first go at getting X on this Mac - thimk I'll just stay here - back in the good ole days.
