I had this problem with the Altivec Enabler and the Cache Enabler I use in os 9 for my G4 processor. When I took them out, classic worked fine.
It is a good idea to use a really minimal 9.2 system for classic since many (if not most) of the os9 extensions are not used in classic anyway. I first used a seperate system folder to solve the incompatibility problem with those extensions I mentioned. But since then I eliminated a lot of extensions which allows classic to boot a lot quicker. Perhaps someone can list the minimum extension list for classic.
