I installed a Sonnet G4 500 zif in my beige. According to the information that came with it, the only voltage regulators that are dodgy are ones manufactured by 'Royal Technology'. If you remove the VRM you can check: if it hasn't got the words 'Royal Technology' on it, then it's OK.
