Hmm. I just bought/inherited (don't ask) a lovely Lombard PB 333 (OS 9.2.1
on this machine for now), with RAM upgraded to 320 MB, and some externals.
I'm running this like-new Que! external CD/RW drive through a humble but
capable Radio Shack USB hub, and there are no problems there.

My problem is with a Logitech optical mouse. I plug the mouse into the
second USB port, directly into the 'Book. The Macintosh will not recognize
the mouse unless the Mac is fully powered-up and/or awakened. Then, you have
to plug in (or re-plug in) the USB mouse for the 'Book to recognize it.

I suspect this problem may be due to a conflict between Apple's mouse
software for the mouse in OS 9.2.1 and Logitech's mouse software (sigh).

Yes, yes, I've tried trashing the appropriate Preferences, running
DiskWarrior and TechTool, zapping the PRAM, rebuilding the desktop, etc.
etc. Yadda.

I've used Macs for quite awhile, and I'm familiar with trouble-shooting
stuff on "Classic Macs."

I don't remember what version of the Mac OS you're running on what B&W, I'm
going to take another swing through Extensions Manager, turning some other
stuff off, with a restart or two (or three or four LOL). You know, the old
days.

Otherwise, the Lombard is a sexy beast: dressed like a dominatrix but made
to serve. It's built like a tank (you AlBook folks, man, remember. When was
the last time you had a 200-lb. man sit with his full weight on the computer
without repair?). That quality control is slipping there in Cupertino.

Still, it always asks for more, so I'll be ordering some FireWire goodies
soon, along with an iPod, and I'll see what sort of trouble that will get me
into.

I don't know if this missive helps you at all or not, Marc. I''m just
spewing out my USB woes on this particular 'Book.

Greetings from Alaska to Marc and all
Greg (a cab driving... well, driver!)
