1 iMac, 1 B&W and 1 G4 were networked together through a "Net Gear" router

Assuming at this time that both Macs could see each other and the internet?

Everything was working fine except the B&W developed a motherboard fault.

Bummer.

The client bought a new G4 (DA) and wanted the hard disc from the B&W used
as the boot disc in the new G4 so that all his settings/prefs/software stay
the same.

Should be fine. May want to consider an "archive and install" and "preserve user and network settings" to address issue with internet connection problem. But see suggestions below first...

Everything worked fine except the G4 couldn't connect to the internet. File
sharing worked ok all the other Macs could be seen and communicated with.
Both of the other Macs could connect to the internet.

Curious what IP address the G4 has in TCP/IP control panel. Bet $$ it starts with 169. Could be something as simple as a release/renew of the IP. Try these two things. First, power cycle all equipment. Power off all Macs and remove power cords from all devices. Make sure high speed modem has power off it for at least 60 seconds. Start with modem and power back on. If G4 still not connected, try new ethernet cable. Try different port in router (a port one of the other working macs uses). Last ditch, do the power cycle routine again, but while equipment is off, by pass router and hook high speed modem directly to G4.

All run 9.2 and use Netscape 7 for internet/mail.

No connection using this app? how about pre-loaded IE?

One of the LEDs on the router was flickering orange instead of green but it
was doing that before the G4 came online (it's also the port that the iMac
is plugged into).

Check net gear's site to make sure this is normal light operation.

Any suggestions?

See above. ;-)
