Subject: Beige G3 and 10.2.8 problems

I've recently updated one of my G3 Macs to 10.2.8. When
using the built-in video, the G3 will have a black screen
after some use and will not show the display again until it
is restarted. The Mac also has a ATI Mach64 PCI video
card in it with 2MB. When using that as the primary video
(one monitor), it has not blacked out yet.

Is it me or does 10.2.8 not like the ATI Rage II series of
chips in the Beige G3?

Thanks ahead of time for any replies....

All you Beige G3 people with only 2 MB VRAM should buy these 4 MB chips for $7 shipped:

I don't know all the 10.2.8 Beige video problems, but I just put 10.2.8 as a backup utility drive for my firewire booted Panther 10.3.3 Beige Rev. 2 and didn't notice this problem on the few times I booted the built-in video. I've always thought 10.2.6 was better on my old 7500, but I thought Jaguar was supposed to be "supported" on the Beige, so I went ahead and did the full 10.2.8 instead of the 10.2.6. I advised my few Beige upgraded friends with Jaguar to stop their Beige units at 10.2.6, so I guess I should have heeded my own advise. You'll need a Radeon card for Panther unless Ryan Remple figures out how to get the old built-in video working via xPostFacto. Some older video cards also can be made to work with Panther; see:
