Hey, at least you guys have had some success getting X to install on your
Beige G3's...I have a Beige G3 (G4/1ghz processor, 768 megs of RAM, Radeon
7000 PCI video card, and PCI IDE drive controller). Regardless of what
configuration I've used, I have been unsuccessful in getting X to install.

The closest I've gotten is with 192 megs oF RAM, built in video, built in
drive controller...in that case, it gets about 80% done with the install
before the screen goes dark and it stops installing.

I had a G3 AIO which would complete the install, but keep locking up during the registration process. I turned out to be a flaky DIMM. The RAM checked out OK under OS9, but was too close to borderline for OSX.

Also check the HD, the install process might be hitting a bad sector or similar problem.
I had one drive which appeared to be OK, but took forever to awake up if the HD
went to sleep. Have the Disk Utility do a format, zero'ing out the HD.

Also make sure you have the latest Radeon driver. I remember having to remove
a bundle driver installed by 10.2.8. (I think it was 10.2.8, my have been 10.2.6).
With the driver installed it caused a system lockup every 15 minutes.
