Hi I could not find the CRX170E here
<http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/documentation.htm>
but I did find a regular Sony IDE config manual here:
<http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/downloads/IDE%20Config%20Guide_oz.PDF>
And looking at a similar 175E PDF:
<http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/downloads/crx175a1/EIDEInterfaceDriveQuickStartGuide.pdf>
 it looks like the settings are the same for every Sony CDRW.
So from left to right: Cable Select, Slave, Master.
You want to most right setting, which is Master.

HTH,
Marc
