Can somebody give me advice for a 56k modem to use with my G3/400 Blue & White?
I've seen the original internal 56k modem for sale but also read about a Global Village Teleport 56k Modem. Are both compatible with OSX?
If not, are there other modems available (maybe external) which I can use with this mac?
Please help!

There have been various reports about the internal modems on the B&W's, most of them dealing with the fact that they're "soft" modems, and lack a true hardware controller. I don't know about the mac world, as it's been a while since I've had to troubleshoot, but this was most painfully obvious in the Windows world, causing the modem to disconnect or stop sending/receiving when the system's core resources were taxed. I.E. don't think about running a soft modem while you're watching DVD's and editing spreadsheets. As I said, I'm not so sure that's the issue in the Mac world, but from the negative reports I've seen, it seems to be something similar. Note that these modems depend on the speed of the CPU and interface they're connected to. Modems, due to their low bandwidth, are usually used by a lower level CPU priority, hence subject to termination when the machine needs the spare cycles. File copies, etc have been known to cause these issues on < 500Mhz machines.

As for externals, I've had the best luck with USR/3Com Externals with USB interfaces. I've never used an external over the legacy serial port on the mac, but I've never had any issues with either the Sportsters nor the Couriers. Both are usually flash upgradable (albeit possibly only by using a PC), so you should be able to stay current with either choice. I'm sure other brands could work, I just haven't had any experience with them.
